New Planning Issues Jan 2022
National Grid: The formal consultation lasting two months was due to start on 21 January. A meeting organised by David Holland (Stour Valley Underground) at Stoke-by-Nayland Hotel has been postponed to March.
Solar farms: there are a growing number of field scale solar farm applications coming in. These are difficult to resist by planning committees in view of government pressure, unless it is Grade 1, 2 or 3a land. Landowners could receive £1000 per acre for a long period. BDC had approved a 50-acre site at Bradwell.
Wethersfield Old Airport – to become the site of two mega prisons? An application was likely soon but there is huge local opposition. Braintree District Council did not consider site suitable for housing. There are two rewilding groups interested in buying the 800 hectare site.
