Editors Notes
For the last few years Michael Goodbody and I have been closely involved with the production of the Newsletter/Magazine. In 2007 and 2008 I took a greater role in finding contributors, so with a change of Chairman the Committee felt that an Editor should be appointed to take full control of the magazine. I have drawn the short straw, but I am glad to say that Michael will continue to assist in proof-reading, which has been his forte, and has resulted in no-one pointing out, either lapses in punctuation, or grammar! I have also been very fortunate in finding another proof-reader, Rory O’Brien, who used to teach English at Stonyhurst. One of our members, who often contacts me, is keen to preserve the English language in its correct form and has no hesitation in highlighting errors! I can’t promise that there are no mistakes this year, but we have tried!
Last year there were many complimentary remarks about the Newsletter, and the fact that all the photographs accompanying the articles were in colour. Some of the articles would have been meaningless in black and white, and the same is true this year. Printing in colour comes at a vastly increased cost, so I have persuaded the Committee to allow a few discreet advertisements which will go a long way to defraying the cost. Please support the advertisers if you can.
The production and set up of the Newsletter has, for over ten years, been in the hands of Deltaprint in Sudbury. There is a wonderful and dedicated staff, under the watchful eye of the owner, Richard Payne. I would like to mention Sue, on the front desk, who has to deal with me every time I walk in the door, and Wendy and Nicky, who are responsible for getting the Newsletter formatted and ready to print. I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism of Deltaprint and would recommend them to you if you need any printing.
